About Us

Scan Home was founded in 1983 by Carl and Barbara Propes. A successful container sale in the summer of 1983 lead to financing to open a 3,100 square foot store in early 1984. Barbara and Carl’s children, Lindsay and Alex, were born into the business and often played in the store while they were growing up. Lindsay graduated from Syracuse University in May of 2007, and Alex has completed his freshman year at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff.

Our Mission
Scan Home was founded to bring affordable Scandinavian furniture to Alaska. Over the years this mission has expanded to include affordable contemporary furniture from many sources around the globe. But the basic mission hasn't changed. At Scan Home you will still find contemporary designed furniture, much of which is at moderate prices.

No business can succeed for very long without the support of loyal customers. Scan Home’s are the best! Our sales associates are trained to never rush customers, and to encourage them to browse as often and as long as they desire before making their purchase decision.

Our Mission
At Scan Home our mission is to provide our customers with good value furniture at a moderate price. Within this framework we do showcase some more expensive items for our higher-end clientele, and some less expensive furniture for our customers with more modest budgets.

Our Furniture
Known for our fine teak furniture, Scan Home also carries mahogany, cherry, oak, maple, wenge and other fine woods, hand-selected from quality manufacturers around the globe. Whether you need to furnish your kid's bedroom, your dream home or plan a new work environment, Scan Home presents a multitude of options at affordable prices.

Most of Scan Home’s furniture is imported from Denmark, but some also comes from Italy, Norway, Sweden, Germany, France, Canada, China, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia.

To our knowledge none of the products carried by Scan Homes is constructed of “rainforest” woods, or wood harvested in the defoliation of rainforests. All of the wood materials used in the construction of Scan Home’s furniture are plantation-grown and carefully harvested at maturity, and then replanted afterwards.
